The Relation between the Playfulness and Leadership

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between preschool children¡¯s playfulness and their leadership. Firstly, we investigated how the playfulness influences on the leadership. Secondly, we studied how the type of preschool children¡¯s playfulness is classified. Finally, according to the type of playfulness, we also observed a potential difference in the leadership. The subjects of this study were 645 children who are 4 to 6 years old from nine children¡¯s houses and kindergartens. In order to measure a children¡¯s playfulness, we used Barnett¡¯s children playfulness scale(1990) which had been modified by Kim young hee(1995). We also used the preschool children¡¯s leadership scale for teachers proposed by Choi in soo and Lee chae ho in order to measure the preschool children¡¯s leadership. The items frequency and ercentage were used to analyze subjects¡¯ demographic quality. Cronbach a for reliability verification was conducted and we used the multiregression analysis to examine how subfactor influences on the leadership. Cluster analysis was used to analyze types of playfulness. Frequency, percentage, average and the standard deviation were also conducted to observe a distinction and distribution of the children¡¯s playfulness. One-way ANOVA was used to examine the difference of the children¡¯s leadership rated by teachers. Lastly, Duncan verification was used as well. Data analysis above revealed following results: Firstly, we found that subfactor such as social spontaneity and cognitive spontaneity influences on the leadership. Secondly, physical spontaneity, social spontaneity, and the expression of joy affect a sensitiveness. Thirdly, social spontaneity, cognitive spontaneity and the expression of joy also influence the social leadership and immersion. Fourthly, according to the result of this study, we found that ¡®Passive-participation playfulness type¡¯, ¡®Initiative-active playfulness type¡¯, and ¡®Hesitative -onlooking playfulness type¡¯ which are listed in the order of high frequency. Finally, we recognized that the importance children¡¯s leadership such as initiative, sociability, sensitiveness, immersion in ¡®Initiative-active playfulness type¡¯, fallowed by ¡®Passive-participation playfulness type¡¯ and ¡®Hesitative-onlooking playfulness type¡¯ which are listed in the order of high frequency.
